Description

The University of Nottingham is a pioneering institution providing an exceptional research-led education and an outstanding experience for 46,000 students from more than 150 countries. Built on the ethos that education can unlock potential and transform lives, we feature in the top 20 of all three major UK university rankings, and our graduates are among the most sought-after in the UK.

The Director of Environmental Sustainability is the University’s inaugural senior lead with responsibility for all aspects of environmental sustainability, including shaping of policy and strategy, embedding sustainability into the teaching curriculum and research portfolio, and delivering wide-ranging programmes to achieve the University’s science-based targets for the reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

Working in partnership with our Academic, Research and Professional Services colleagues, the successful candidate will collaborate with local, regional and national stakeholders to establish the University of Nottingham as a leading global institution for excellence in environmental sustainability. Reporting to the Director of Estates and Facilities and leading a dedicated sustainability team, the Director of Environmental Sustainability will also work closely with the University Executive Board

The post holder will bring strong technical understanding in addition to experience of developing sustainability policy and strategy across a large, complex estate, which could be in higher education, the wider public sector or a commercial setting.
